Our living room may be my favorite room in the house. I hope this post gives you inspiration and all the modern living room ideas. When we designed this space we wanted it to be modern, cozy and clean. I feel like we accomplished that! We truly believe it is the perfect modern living room.

Modern Living Room Decor Ideas
We decided to keep the walls white in the living to give it a clean, modern look. To give the white walls some contrast, we decided on a herringbone gray and white tile for the fireplace. I couldn't find the exact tile, but this is similar and its GORGEOUS- here it is. The fireplace is finished off with a piece of natural hickory from a local business here in Columbus. We decided not to stain the wood and sealed it with an oil finisher. Having a wood burning fireplace was a must have for me and I love it so much.
Mid Century Modern Living Room Ideas
Our couch is one of the staple pieces in our living room. It is the harmony 3 piece sectional from West Elm. It is a deep couch and extremely cozy. It is filled with down feathers and finished in a distressed velvet, in the color mineral gray. They have different color options as well as material finishes. We have owned it for 1.5 years and it has worn really well.
Our coffee table is from Amazon and we love it! It is a mid century modern style and adds the perfect touch for a modern living room. It isn't real wood but we prefer that right now because we have young children (and all the moms say amen?!). We love that it has storage for remotes, etc. It has a wood grain finish with black legs.
We also love this little side table from Amazon. It works great as an end table for drinks and plates. The amazing thing is that it slides under the couch so you can use it for your laptop or to eat dinner while you are watching T.V.
Modern Living Room Design Ideas
We added this egg chair to our modern living room and WE LOVE IT. It adds the perfect bohemian touch. It is comfortable and well made. It is from Walmart and currently unavailable. I found a similar, cute, egg chair from Pottery Barn but it is double the price.
We also LOVE our rug. I purchased it from USA Rugs and we are obsessed. It is a 9x12, very large and pulls our modern living room together in just the right way. It has worn so well and we are constantly walking on it. The multi color design hides stains and wear (PRAISE). USA Rugs puts on amazing sales and we got our rug for 40% off. I would wait to purchase until they have a sale.
Modern Living Room Furniture Ideas
We decided to incorporate open shelving to give a hint of natural wood and because we love to decorate open shelving. We purchased the wood from a local business in Columbus and sealed it with an oil finisher. Decorating the shelves was our favorite part of the living room.
We layered photo frames, candle sticks, vintage cameras and plants for a little green pop. We layered the decor on top of our chatbooks to give some added height.
BONUS TIP- when you are decorating open shelving, make sure you add personal touches. Add photos of your family, meaningful heirlooms, art from your kids, etc. It makes your home feel warm and meaningful.
Contemporary Modern Living Room Ideas
Many of you have asked about our white and wood hutch below our open shelving. HERE IT IS! We love this hutch so much because it brings a little bit of a bohemian vibe to a very modern living room. It also ties in the egg chair. It is a white hutch with a natural wood grain front, standing on gold legs. It is out of stock and I am so sorry!
